Communication has changed
over the years, from hand written letters, to using social networking sites
like Facebook.
There are 8 different ways of
communicating using technology: Word-processed documents, a presentation, an
Email, Web pages, Blogs, Vlogs, Podcasts and Video conferencing.
Many of these different
software’s we use daily, for example a word processors like Microsoft word. It
is useful as a word-processed document and can include text, tables and images.
Word-processed documents are usually presented on a screen, like a computer
monitor or projector; however, they do not always have to be viewed on a
computer; if printed, word documents can easily be displayed on paper. It can
be used for writing reports, a business letter, a newspaper or a magazine. The
disadvantages for a hard copy is the document has to be printed which cost
money to have the recourses for a printer, it includes paying for paper all the
time and ink. Also to view the document on screen you have to have a computer.
A presentation is a slide
show on a computer. It can include text, images, tables, Links to websites,
video’s and even music. It can be viewed with or without a presenter there to
explain what the presentation talks about. Also a presentation can be printed
out onto paper. A presentation is usually used for displaying information to a
certain audience. The benefits of a presentation is, it is usually short and
presents the key points of a topic. The disadvantage of a presentation is that
it involves a computer screen and a whiteboard or projector, which includes
having to buy the equipment like a whiteboard and projector and a computer if
you have not go one already. These resources can cost a lot of money.
An email is an electronic
message that is linked to the internet, it allows you to write a message and
also add attachments which can include: a word document, an image, a video or
even a sound file. It is usually view on a computer; although with the
technology increasing and improving quite fast, there are a variety of ways you
can view Email’s for example on your phone, on an iPad, on a Tablet etc. The
benefits of an email is it can be sent to more than one person at a time and it
is instantly sent and delivered just by clicking the ‘send’ button, you can also
reply to an email or forward an email. The disadvantages to email are the
sender and the person receiving has to have an email account and the email is
also connected to the internet, which involves you buying broadband, but due to
viewing your Email’s you also have to have access to a computer or a phone.
Web pages are written HTML
codes or script language. It is viewed on the internet in a different form of a
page layout that would have links to other pages. It usually includes moving
images and audios, but can include more things like; links, images, sound,
video and also text. The benefits of web pages are; it is easily accessible
online for all internet users, it is a nicer experience of accessing
information in the site, also the web pages can be updated at any time and most
web pages can be viewed by anyone from all over the world. The disadvantages to
web pages are it requires skills in creating a web page and knowing how pages
are set out layout for websites and linking them together. Also a computer with
internet access is needed to upload and update the site.
